Best of WWE 2010

Best things WWE did this year
3. Storyline matches - There were a lot of good storyline matches this. Cena/Batista told a really good story on why Cena was pushed as the top star when Batista had just as much chance as him. Kane/Taker, while very old, told a good story of two brothers, jealously, a demented father, and the World Title. Miz/Bryan was also very good. The top storyline feud of the year is definitely Cena/Nexus. A bunch of newcomers want their spotlight so they take out the top guy in the company. Not a good idea when it's John Cena you're facing. Really good matches between the two and a shocking conclusion made this a top feud.
2. Making Cena look human - At the beginning of the year, Cena lost the Rumble to a returning Edge, then became champ at EC only to lose to Batista seconds later. It was until Nexus came that WWE made Cena seemed a little human. Sure, he got DDT'ed on concrete and beat two men within a matter of seconds, but him losing to Barrett and put into place for a month was pretty new. Also, him getting kayfabe fired was also nice, seeing how Edge or Orton couldn't do that.
1. Push of the young talent - The Year of the Newcomer. I've said it dozens of times. Look at the champions entering 2010. Sheamus held the WWE Title, Miz held the US Title, and McIntrye held the IC Title. Swagger eventually won MITB and then won the title two days later. Ziggler FINALLY captured the IC Title. WADE BARRETT main evented TWO of the Big Four PPVs and he FIRED Superman John Cena. Del Rio took out Christian and Mysterio in two months. The Miz cashed in his contract and became WWE Champion. Most of these guys are nobodies, yet they are some of the top heels in the WWE. I expect Barrett and Del Rio to both be World Champions come Survivor Series 2011.

Best Matches 0f 2010
5. Bryan/Ziggler Bragging Rights - This opening contest ended up stealing the show at this event. It was a fast paced contest between two of the best young superstars WWE has to offer. Both of these guys have great futures in this business.
4. Smackdown MITB Ladder Match MITB - This was the best ladder match to me this year. A lot of young guys competing to be the next world champion. Unfortunately, the winner wasn't who I expected or wanted, so it loses a lot of points that way. Overall, it was a great match and the Kofi ladder spot was awesome!
3. Jericho/Edge WM 26 - This is how a World Title match is done. I knew this was going to be a great contest between these Canadians. This was more of a wrestling match, but it was great wrestling. The ending was also a little bit of a shocker with Jericho retaining, but it was a great contest in the end.
2. Team WWE VS Nexus SummerSlam - What a match this was. It was crazy to see 7 rookies main event one of the WWE's biggest events. What a performance by those rookies. The ending messed the whole match up though. How does someone get a DDT on concrete and still win the match? Ruined it for me. Cena couldn't put them over just once. Great elimination match.
1. Undertaker/HBK WM 26 - Two years in a row. What can I say about this match? It was great. The ending, sucked, like most of the great matches this year. The Super Atomic Tombstone was amazing though. Taker/HBK get it again.

Biggest Disappointments
5. Mysterio winning World Title/Kane cashes in, ruins a good Summerslam main event - Although he held the title for 28 days, the fact they gave it to him is a mystery. If Kane was going to cash in any way, why didn't they have Swagger win the Fatal 4 Way? Really stupid. Even though it was a bad decision, I looked on the bright side. Mysterio will beat Swagger at MITB then face someone like Kofi, Rhodes, or McIntrye at Summerslam and try and push one of these young bucks. THEN, Kane ruined that with the MITB contract and any chance of a really good World Title match was gone. Good job WWE.
4. Injuries - There were a lot of guys put on the side this year. Triple H, Undertaker, CM Punk, Bourne, and Christian to name and few. Undertaker being injured caused Mysterio to become World Champion. Triple H being injured made Sheamus lose the title two weeks before he was suppose to. CM Punk and Bourne being injured means there's really no one for Bryan to have an EXCELLENT feud with. Christian being injured means we might not see him in time for Mania, dashing everyone hopes of a Edge/Christian WM 27 main event. Or I forgot, Taker being injured means that we might not see him involved with Mania this year. Injuries always suck.
3. Smackdown not pushing young talent - Raw has done their part, why hasn't Smackdown? All of the new World Champions this year came from Raw, so what's up Smackdown? Congrats, you're pushing Del Rio, but that's it! Where is Rhodes and McIntrye's much needed pushes? Where's Kofi's? Why do you continue to push the same guys in the same title matches? The Kane/Taker feud was the reason why many didn't get pushed. I thought Smackdown was the land of opportunity, but they obviously lost it this year.
2. HBK retires - Once HBK put his career on the line against Taker, everyone knew HBK was done with. It sucks to see one of the top guys in the company leave, especially since he didn't feud with Morrison, Punk, or Sheamus in his career. RIP HBK's career.
1. Survivor Series 2010 - This was the worst event of the Big 4. It had so much potential too. First, they knock out Del Rio, aka the team captain in the Survivor Series match. Why would you do that when you're suppose to be making Del Rio look good? It doesn't help him one bit that he got knocked out in his 1st SS appearance and it really doesn't help that his team got dominated. Then, they have Edge and Kane wrestle to a draw. A draw? Really? What a cheap way to keep Kane's title streak alive. THEN, the main event was a let down. There was nothing shocking that happened. Cena didn't turn heel, Barrett didn't win the title. Cena called the match down the middle. And then Cena paraded around the arena and that was it. They had the ball in their court and they dropped it. This and Bragging Rights 2010 were just horrible events storyline wise.

Best Moments
5. Evan Bourne's semi push - Evan Bourne is one of the better superstars on in WWE period. So, when he actually beat Jericho at Fatal 4 Way, I was excited to see him start to get a push. Then, MITB rolls around and I thought he had a good chance of winning that, but he didn't and then kind of fell off of the face of the earth and got injured. Bourne is a great high flier and fun to watch in the ring so seeing him actually beat a main eventer was awesome.
4. Edge returns, wins Rumble - Many people didn't like the Cena return at the 2008 Rumble. I am one of those people. I did though love when they did it for Edge. Call me a hypocrite but I loved Edge making his shocking return to win the match. Unfortunately, he didn't win the World Title until TLC in December, but it was great seeing Cena lose in the Rumble. One of my favorite Edge returns.
3. Cena joining Nexus/Being Fired - When they announced the Barrett/Cena match at HIAC with the stipulation, I just knew Nexus were going to pack up and go to Smackdown or something. Boy was I wrong! To actually see Barrett pin Cena was great. Though it wasn't clean, it was great. Then, to see Barrett actually fire Cena was even better. Though he didn't win the championship, he demoralized the WWE for a couple of weeks by firing the top face in the company. Congrats Mr. Barrett.
2. Formation of Nexus - I remember watching that Raw live when the Nexus debuted. I didn't know what to think of it at the time. It was definitely ballsy and different but I really didn't know any of the guys that were in NXT. Over the next couple weeks though, I loved what WWE had done with those young 7 stars and to actually give them the main event at SummerSlam, that was amazing. The Nexus have solidified themselves in 2010.. When you think back to WWE in 2010, The Nexus will definitely come to mind.
1. Miz wins WWE Title - This was my mark out moment of the year. Sure, Edge won the Rumble and I went crazy and sure, Cena joined Nexus and I went crazy, but when Miz got that three count on Orton, I went ballistic. To see someone work so hard, someone who I've come to respect as a wrestler win the WWE Title, was an amazing site. When I see things like that happen in WWE, it gives me hope for everyone else. Miz came from a host on Smackdown, to a great tag team champion, to a goofy singles competitor to WWE Champion. Such a great moment in WWE history and my top of the year.

Breakout Star of the Year
3. Sheamus - Sheamus entered 2010 as WWE Champion. What else can I say? He won it at the last event of the year and actually main evented two PPVs at champion. He had a good WM match with his buddy Triple H and actually took him out of action. THEN, he won his 2nd WWE Title in June. Two WWE Title reigns in his first year in the company is definitely breakout worthy.
2. The Miz - Winning the US Title, the Unified Tag Titles, the MITB, winning your first WM match, and winning the WWE Title is really breakout worthy. Not to mention he's the best heel on Raw and he might be entering WM 27 as WWE Champion. The Miz also held the US Title for half of the year, but was not featured in matches on Summerslam and Survivor Series, which keeps him from the top spot.
1. Wade Barrett - This man was the single reason why Raw was interesting from June to November. This man came from nowhere and main evented 5 PPVs this year, something Miz can't say. He also beat Superman John Cena and made him join The Nexus. Unfortunately, Barrett never won the WWE Title this year, but that was because of John Cena, but when you main event 5 PPVS in your rookie year, you're definitely the breakout star of the year.

Superstar of the Year
10. Alberto Del Rio - This newcomer was only around for 5 months in 2010, but they were some pretty great months. Del Rio beat the former World Champion Rey Mysterio in his first match on Smackdown. He made the man TAP OUT! That's saying a lot. Then, he takes out Christian, he captains his own Survivor Series team, and he was inches away from winning the World Title. Not a bad 5 months for the rookie. He'll definitely be World Champ in 2011.
9. Undertaker - Taker wasn't around for much of the year, but he did have another fantastic match with HBK and the first two matches with Kane were pretty good. Injuries sidelined the Dead Man for most of the year so he's not too high on the list.
8. Dolph Ziggler - Ziggler had been chasing the IC Title since SummerSlam 2009 and he finally won it in July 2010. Not only will he enter 2011 as IC Champion, but he's put on some of the better matches this year with Kofi, John Cena, and MOTY candidate with Daniel Bryan. I expect some type of World Title push in 2010.
7. Edge - The Rated R Superstar started the year well, by winning the Rumble and having a great match with Jericho at Mania, but he kind of fell off after that. It wasn't until December where he won his 10th World Title. Not the best year for the Master Manipulator.
6. Randy Orton - Orton turned into a fan favorite for the 1st time since 2005 and it has worked great. He pushed the young guys at Mania and Extreme Rules, he put on some good matches with Sheamus, and he felled back the title hopes of one Wade Barrett. The Viper has had a pretty good year.
5. John Cena - Cena has another good year. He won the WWE Title twice this year and beat Batista a stunning THREE TIMES. Yeah that's right, 3. He was also involved in the Feud of the Year with Mr. Barrett and Nexus. While he was fired for three weeks, he came back with a huge victory over Barrett at TLC. Cena is a top name to win the Rumble in 2011.
4. Sheamus - Sheamus came into 2010 as WWE Champion and still wasn't a known name. He had an impressive performance at Mania against HHH and eventually won the WWE Title again 3 months later. Though he lost it in a 6 Pack Challenge he had a great match against Orton at HIAC and then went on to have 3 great matches with Morrison. Oh, he also won the King of the Ring tournament and became KING Sheamus. The Celtic Warrior never missed a beat this year and becoming one of the top young guys in the WWE.
3. Wade Barrett - Mr. Barrett had a great 2010. He main evented 5 of the 6 PPV events he was involved in with two of them being part of the Big 4 WWE PPVs. He feuded with Cena in the best feud of the year and actually made Cena look human by making him join Nexus. While Mr. Barrett was unsuccessful in winning the title in the 4 opportunities he had, it doesn't lessen the impact he had this year. Barrett is more of a household name than Sheamus is and I think that's great considering that Barrett doesn't have the 2 WWE Title reigns that Sheamus has. Barrett has to become WWE Champion in 2011. There's no way in hell he won't be.
2. Kane - Where the hell did this come from? Kane was the last person I thought would be on this list, but Kane has had the best year in his whole career. He wins MITB then wins the title in the same night. Then, he beats Taker in 3 STRAIGHT MATCHES. I don't think anyone has done that. That is scary awesome. He had the longest World Title reign in 5 years and he was the monster he used to be. The Big Red Monster had a fantastic 2010 and I'm really surprised.
1. The Miz - Are you surprised? Don't be. The Miz had the best year in 2010. Why? Let's see, he was a triple champion, he had the US Title for 6 months, he won his first Mania match, he won MITB, he pushed Daniel Bryan and he's becoming one of the better wrestlers on Raw, and he eventually won the WWE Championship. Don't forget he's one of the most hated wrestlers in the business and he's great on the mic. His title win was featured everywhere and he's becoming the next face of the WWE. Look out Cena, The Miz has come to play. He's here to stay, best get out of his way, he's come to play. HAHAHA! But seriously, The Miz had come from being a nothing, a nobody, to being one of the better superstars on the brand. When he finally won the WWE Title, it was a feeling of accomplishment, a feeling that he deserved it. Something that I didn't feel when Sheamus won it. Congrats Miz. Let's make 2011 another good year.

So there it is. Here's the year 2010 in WWE, the short version.
Out of the three MITB matches, only The Miz deserved to win.
Undertaker ruined this year period.
The youth movement is officially on in WWE.
Miz winning the title made this year for me.
WWE showed little improvement this year.

What does WWE need to do 2011? Let's see.
Barrett and Del Rio need to win World Titles.
We need a black world champion. Ezekiel Jackson PLEASE.
Edge and Christian need to feud for the World Title.
Kofi, Evan Bourne, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, and Drew McIntrye need title shots, preferably in the summer.
CENA NEEDS TO TURN HEEL!!!!!

That's WWE in 2010. Let's look forward into 2011. God Bless and have a Happy New Year!
