Daniel Bryan has confirmed that he will be participating in the 2015 Royal Rumble match, much to the surprise of myself and many other fans of the WWE Universe. I know we all thought about the chance to see him enter the match but now it's a reality. Now, WWE has a bit of a conundrum on their heads. Roman Reigns, since last year, was suppose to ascend to the top of the throne of WWE by defeating the unstoppable beast Brock Lesnar and set things back to normal in WWE. With the return of a top guy like Bryan to active competition, that doesn't bode well for Reigns.
Daniel Bryan VS Brock Lesnar was suppose to be the SummerSlam 2014 main event, where The Authority would have brought all of us back to the reality that Bryan really was a B+ player by being dominated by the bigger stronger more desired WWE star Brock Lesnar. Now, with Bryan back, I could see WWE going ahead and doing this at WrestleMania 31, just reverse, with Daniel Bryan being the savior who brings the WWE Title back to active defense. It's definitely poetic and a comeback story for the ages but hasn't WWE done this like, 15 times already? Stone Cold in 2001, Triple H in 2002, John Cena in 2008, Edge in 2010 and now, Bryan in 2015? Come on, let's do something different. Plus, Bryan VS Lesnar wouldn't be smart for a guy with neck problems. Lesnar is the most dangerous guy in the business. Why would they endanger him like that? And to have the same ending to back to back Wrestlemanias? Ugh. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Daniel Bryan supporter and if he won the Rumble and then won the title again, that's fine, because Bryan's look is more like the guys coming in. It just has the storybook ending that WWE likes written all over it. What if that's the plan but with a twist? What if Bryan defeats Lesnar, only to have the first ever cash in at WrestleMania take place? It's happened to Bryan before in a big PPV setting so it's definitely not original but it leaves more open for the months to come. I mean, could you imagine the matches Rollins and Bryan would put on in the following months? And then, you could eventually add Reigns, Wyatt, Ambrose and Cena to the mix and you got an interesting year.
Reigns VS Lesnar though, is the type of match Vince would love. It's two big guys going at in the biggest event of the year. It doesn't get much better for Vince's mind. I don't think it will be the wrestling classic or the greatest main event of WrestleMania, but if you want to push big stars, you have to take chances like this. For example, was Batista really ready to main event WrestleMania when he did with Triple H? Probably not but the long term effects of that match were worth it and it wasn't a bad match either. That's what WWE has going for them this year now. Either WWE can do Bryan/Lesnar, which is probably what the fans want and could lead to the better ending with a Rollins cash in or they could go with the original plan of Lesnar/Reigns, which will crown Reigns as a top face and start his reign ala Batista/Cena of 2005. It's risky but if they have ALL this confidence in Reigns, they have to pull the trigger.
Bryan could go on to feud with Rollins, who would defeat Orton at WWE Fast Lane with the help of a deranged superstar, Bray Wyatt, leading to their WrestleMania match. Cena would of course face Rusev and they can do the Sting/HHH match. I don't really want to see Taker on the card but the only match that makes sense is a match with Wyatt.
Here's how I want things to go down at WrestleMania 31:
Lesnar/Reigns
Sting/HHH
Cena/Rusev
Bryan/Rollins
Wyatt/Orton
Here's how WWE WILL book WM31:
Bryan/Lesnar
Sting/HHH
Cena/Rusev
Taker/Wyatt
Rollins/Orton
Reigns/Heel Sheamus
You can't go wrong with either card to be honest. Seriously. As always though, we'll have to wait until the Royal Rumble until we can see some of these matches start to take shape.
