AH, it's finally time for my favorite PPV of the year again! The Royal Rumble is always considered the first stop on the Road to Wrestlemania and this year's road is filled with a lot of confusion and branching paths. With a Triple Threat title match and a Royal Rumble that is completely up for grabs, the main event of Wrestlemania 31 isn't set like last year's. Let's start talking about it!
There are three stinking tag team matches on this card. THREE! No singles title matches besides the World Title on the line here. Not even the Divas Title is up for grabs! Come on! The only tag match I'm concerned with is The Ascension VS The New Age Outlaws. This is obviously only a match so Ascension look good but this show the confidence that WWE has in the team. They did the same with The Usos and look at them now. Easily the team to beat in the division. So, rapid fire!
Ascension wins! Usos win! Paige and Nattie win!
Brock Lesnar will be defending the title against Seth Rollins and John Cena. Rollins addition to the match is very interesting and most is most likely a last minute thing because they were building this as the last match between Cena and Lesnar. Rollins adds a whole new dynamic to the otherwise stale confrontation betwen these two. This match is the most unpredictable title match in Rumble history. It really could go either way and each guy would deserve it. Lesnar simply because he's the guy who ended the Streak AND conquered Cena at SummerSlam. The person to take the title off of him has to be the next top star. Cena holding onto the title is always WWE's plan when things are going bad or when a big event is coming up. Rollins became the top heel in 2014, winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and brought back The Authority. All of these guys have a legit reason why they should hold WWE's top prize. The only thing is, it's hard to see who will win because the person they will face it still undecided. Is it Lesnar VS Reigns, Lesnar VS Bryan Rollins VS Reigns, Rollins VS Bryan, Cena VS Bryan, or Cena VS Reigns? All could be the show ender at Mania and rightfully so. I still think WWE will have Lesnar lose the title at the show where his absolute dominance truly began, Wrestlemania. And besides, there still hasn't been a cash in attempt at Wrestlemania. Why not this year? Rollins doesn't need the title just yet and Cena has Rusev to push. Brock Lesnar retains the title.
The 30 Man Royal Rumble match is pretty wide open this year. To my knowledge, no one confirmed for the Royal Rumble has ever won the match so we'll have a first time winner if that's the case. Just when the winner was obvious, WWE threw a curveball at us and it's unpredictable for the first time since...well, a while!
For months, the dirtsheets have been reporting that golden boy Roman Reigns would take his seat on the throne after defeating Brock Lesnar in the main event of WM31. The only way for Reigns to get put in the title picture is to win the Royal Rumble so speculation began that he would be the one to win it this year. That was until Daniel Bryan announced he was going to be taking part in the Royal Rumble as well and then all plans were thrown out the window. Bryan is still the most popular superstar that WWE has so another main event berth at Wrestlemania just seems right but is he really healthly enough to step in the ring with the Beast? Though wrestling is a scripted form of entertainment, Lesnar is stiff in the ring and the last thing Bryan needs is a repeat of 2014. So, basically, I'm trying to say that the Royal Rumble match is going to come down to two guys; Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns.
They both represent the future of the company. Reigns is the hand picked star that will lead the company to the future. Bryan is the people's champion who, while fantastic in the ring, doesn't have the look the WWE office wants so isn't backed like Reigns is. Bryan has the experience of being in the main event, Reigns is still green on that. Both have legit claims to be the Rumble winner but it's going to come down to one. If Reigns is to win, who would be the one to eliminate Bryan? Whoever it is needs to be a top heel or someone they are grooming for something to come. Three people come to mind. You have Sheamus, who is suppose to be going heel and time now. Sheamus in the Authority being the muscle instead of Kane is 100 times better. You have Rusev, who could use the heat to start his program with Cena. My choice is Bray Wyatt, who defeated Daniel Bryan on Raw this past week. What kind of star are you when you defeat the hottest superstar on his 2nd match back from injury? The type of star that's being built up for a reason. The reason being, if Undertaker is healthly and ready to go, they have a strong guy like Wyatt to put him against. I can see the Final Two being Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt ala Cena/Batista from RR 2005, with Bryan and Rusev rounding out the Final Four. Reigns eliminates Wyatt, gets a big pop for eliminating the guy who got Bryan out and punches his ticket to Mania.
Roman Reigns will win the 2015 Royal Rumble match and headline Wrestlemania. Will he walk out as champion? The fact that there hasn't been a cash in attempt at Mania REALLY bothers me...
Other Rumble predictions, expect a NXT star or two, maybe Neville and Balor, to compete. Ziggler and Bryan will be the Iron Men of the Rumble, Reigns will get close to his record 12 eliminations, and #1 and #2 will be people the Authority have beef with. Maybe like Ziggler and Ryback?
The Royal Rumble comes to you live on Sunday from Philadelphia, which I will attending! Look out for me, I'll be the only one rocking a Finn Balor t-shirt!
