Pros/Cons of Orton/Rollins

If the IC Title match doesn't steal the show, this match certainly will. The Authority's Golden Boy VS The Former Face of the WWE. Let's talk!

Pros

1. Match of the night

Every Wrestlemania needs a match like this. A singles match that could potentially be remembered as the best pure match of the night. Angle/Lesnar, HBK/Angle, HBK/Taker etc. This is that match. Both have put on great singles match with Rollins being on fire as of lately. Orton is like Cena. You put him with someone who can really steal the show to elevate his game. Look at Orton's matches with Ziggler on different episodes of Raw and Smackdown to see what I mean. Two amazing talents, one ring. Let them go and give them time and this could be remembered as THE match of Wrestlemania 31.

2. Great story/build

I love how this match has come about. Timing is everything in WWE. Orton was selected to star in The Condemned 2, a sequel to the movie Austin was in years ago. So WWE needs to write him off of television for awhile so he can film said movie. Perfect opportunity to have Rollins get a lot of heat by taking out his Authority brethren, proving again that Rollins cannot ever be trusted. Rollins continues to rise during the months that Orton is out and it sets up for this major match. Orton playing around like he's OK with the attack was brilliant and his assault on Rollins was amazing. It all leads up to Wrestlemania. It's a great match that didn't forget what happened previously. Many times storylines don't have ends or play out well but this is the opposite and it's good to see.

3. First big match for Rollins

Rollins has been the true success story of The Shield's former members, He won the MITB briefcase, he was in a one on one match in the main event of the PPV and he's been pushed as the top heel in the company. Full time anyway. While he did main event a PPV and was fed to Superman Cena, he hasn't had a big singles match at Wrestlemania yet. This year, he has the honor of facing a WWE vet in Randy Orton. This will be Rollins on the big stage by himself for the first time. It's his breakout moment. Orton did the same thing 10 years ago against The Undertaker. Rinse and repeat.

4. More matches done the line

With this type of feud, there just won't be one match. Usually, whatever the WM match is, there's rematches for the next couple of months and with Extreme Rules coming in April, I can see them having a Last Man Standing match their match here. Basically, the options for great rematches are endless and it all starts with their first match.

5. Pushing of younger talent

This Wrestlemania features a lot of single matches, with 4 of them having WWE top dogs going against NXT alumni. Rollins/Orton is one of those marquee match ups. Just by having Rollins put more eyes onto him. Rollins is one of the future stars in the company. He needs to have a great performance against Orton. He needs to show that he can take it to the main event players in WWE. If Reigns is to win the World Title, he's going to need a foil to his throne. Rollins could play that role quite well and it all starts with a great performance at Mania.

Cons

1. Someone has to follow

Like the IC Title match, someone is going to have to follow this match. If Orton and Rollins get enough time and have the match I know they can have, then it's going to be a tough act to follow. It's not the worst con but seriously, you don't want to pale in comparison, especially if you're in the main event.

2. Rollins probably won't win

Orton hasn't won at Wrestlemania since 27 back in 2011, losing to Kane at 28, The Shield at 29 and Daniel Bryan at 30. He's on a losing streak and what past stars can tell you is that that fact doesn't really matter. Triple H even lost 4 straight so that's not the defining answer to why I think he'll win. It's mainly because he just got back. He just made his grand return at Fast Lane and this is his first big match back. Usually, the guy returning doesn't lose in his first match back and even worse for Rollins, it's at Wrestlemania. Hey, anything can indeed happen but Orton winning won't shock me in the slightest.

3. Not for a title

Orton/Rollins is a feud fit for the World Championship. It has the story, the characters and both stars possess amazing in ring abilities. The fact that a World Title isn't on the line sucks. I love first time match ups but what would have made this even better would've been a title up for grabs. Who knows? Their match at Extreme Rules could very well be for the WWE Title if Rollins ends up cashing in...

To be honest, this was the hardest match to come up with cons for. I love everything about this match. It had the perfect setup months ago, it features a top star VS an up and comer and it will definitely be a show stealer if given enough time. There's not a lot wrong with this match. It's the quintessential Wrestlemania match. It should be something amazing come Sunday.

The next post WILL be my Wrestlemania 31 predictions!!! How will the NXT alumni fare against their experienced WWE rivals? Who walks out with the IC Title? Will Sting and Triple H be able to wrestle? I talk that and more in my next post!
